Major Secondary Excursions
Week 10 term three is a time of great excitement as students in years 8 and 9 embark on their excursions.
Year 8 students visit the NSW Mid North Coast, undertaking studies in forest and coastal environments while visiting Port Macquarie and surrounding districts. The students stay at Bonny Hills conference centre, and highlights include a river cruise, ten-pin bowling and beach recreation activities.
Year 9 travels to Sydney for their excursion. They visit attractions as diverse as Centrepoint Tower, Luna Park and the Powerhouse museum. They visit the North Head Quarantine centre, where they experience a ghost tour. The students are also shown around State Parliament, meeting our local member Mr Richard Torbay, and they see first hand the workings of our democratic system.
Both these excursions provide invaluable experiences for students as they learn to live away from their parents, and to get along with each other outside the school environment. They have to take responsibility for personal tidiness and budgeting. They also share social experiences with their peers that they will always remember, and they have opportunities to display leadership skills. In these ways, excursions are an important part of the personal development program at Holy Trinity School.
