Debating and Public speaking
Holy Trinity has a strong tradition in Public Speaking. While oral communication is a core component of the English curriculum in Primary and Secondary school, each department has developed a unique and prestigious public speaking competition which encourages and rewards excellence in communication. In the Primary department, the finalists from each year present their speeches at a special finals assembly, in front of students, parents and a guest adjudicator. This formal recognition of the best public speakers reflects the importance the school places on this civic skill.
The Secondary English Department conducts a public speaking unit with all classes, 7 to 10, as a core assessment task. Excellence is encouraged, with the best speakers invited to present their speeches at a Finals evening, before a parent audience.
Each year Holy Trinity sends teams to compete in the Catholic Secondary Schools debating competition. We compete in the North Coast division, against the much larger Coastal Schools. Our teams are always competitive, and this reflects the value placed on public speaking at Holy Trinity School.
